Cate Peña selected as New York Stem Cell Foundation Robertson Neuroscience Investigator

Dr. Cate Peña, an Assistant Professor in PNI, was selected as a New York Stem Cell Foundation (NYSCF) Robertson Neuroscience Investigator. The NYSCF Investigator Program fosters and encourages promising early career scientists whose cutting-edge research holds the potential to accelerate treatments and cures. The late NYSCF founder and CEO, Susan Solomon, JD, previously remarked, “These highly competitive awards provide talented early-career scientists with unrestricted funding that allows them to ask big questions and follow the most promising science.” This five-year, $1.5M award will fund Dr. Peña’s research program aimed at understanding fundamental principles of brain development, understanding how early life stress alters molecular brain development to increase risk for psychiatric disease, and developing novel approaches to promote resilience. The Peña lab is using a number of cutting-edge techniques including transgenic mice to tag cellular activity, single-nucleus RNA and DNA sequencing, and CRISPR-based epigenome editing.
