About Adam

Dr. Adam J Calhoun is a Research Scientist at Meta Reality Labs, where he leverages his expertise in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and neuroscience to pioneer the development of EMG-based neural interfaces for wearable technology. He has an academic background, with an M.Maths from the University of St. Andrews and a Ph.D. in neuroscience from UC San Diego/Salk Institute. During his Ph.D., he combined molecular biology, imaging, and machine learning to investigate foraging behavior. As a postdoctoral fellow at Princeton University, he developed interpretable machine learning models of neuroscience and behavior to understand naturalistic social behaviors.

About the series

Beyond the Bench is a regularly occurring speaker series at the Princeton Neuroscience Institute designed to help graduate students and postdocs explore diverse career paths beyond (and sometimes alongside) academia. Each speaker, typically holding a Ph.D. in neuroscience and many of whom are PNI alums, visits campus to share candid insights into their journey from the lab bench to their current role, along with a glimpse into their “day in the life.” After a brief presentation, the floor opens for Q&A.
